Jean Tirole, laureate of the 2014 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences

After the 2014 Nobel Prize in Literature awarded to Patrick Modiano, another French is distinguished by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Prof.Jean Tirole was awarded on Monday, October 13th, the 2014 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel “for his analysis of market power and regulation”.

Jean Tirole is a professor in economics at Toulouse-I Capitole University, chairman of the board of the Jean-Jacques Laffont Foundation at the Toulouse School of Economics, scientific director of the Institut d’Economie Industrielle, and founding member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse (IAST). He is also director of studies at ”School for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences” (EHESS).

Jean Tirole becomes the third French citizen to win theprize. Earlier French Laureates in Economic sciences are Maurice Allais in 1988 and Gérard Debreu in 1983.
